Norwegian Metal Giant Darkthrone Shares New Single
Darkthrone is one of the bands that has managed to defy the years and become a cult band. Although the band doesn’t make music like their early period, they continue to produce music in the New Wave Of Black Heavy Metal movement that they have developed in recent years without slowing down.
‘It Beckons Us All’ was released on April 26th. Let’s see what the band has shared about this album.

“It’s not a very metal topic, sorry! It’s about the EIDER bird and Nordland. Many years ago I saw in a Norwegian documentary the symbiotic relationship the coastal people of Nordland have with this bird. They would look after the nests and in return they could collect eagles for pillows, clothes, warmth etc. So that’s what the lyrics are about. But again, it’s Ted’s song, so it’s a bit difficult for me to comment musically, but I’ll tell you all what I think when I listen to it:
“First, we have a typical relentless Ted riff for the verse, then he surprises with a catchy riff for the chorus AND THEN comes my favorite part of the album; the post-chorus riff that sounds like Queensryche 1984 style and you can also hear how much we enjoyed playing it! Exactly where I want to be! I could play this riff for 8 minutes, haha! This goes back to the chorus without singing again and then it goes back to Queensryche ’84. Then the first riff again with the harmony guitar that I added, what our studio guy Ole Øvstedal calls the “Corleone part”.
It’s not fast, we’re not an extreme metal band, it’s more like MODERAT EPIC), which corresponds to a slower heavy metal riff where we also take out the mellotron if I remember correctly.
“Then Ted bombs you with one last part, primitive d-beat thrash with a riff like Tom G Warrior did and I also ordered Ted to put some hell guitars. Anyway, I LIVE for that queensryche 84 riff, Ted!”

“It’s really hard to talk about our music, at least for me. Personally, music is a fluid thing and I have a hard time trying to break it down. It’s metal, it’s a bit heavy/doom/black/thrash, so Darkthrone right now, mixing genres is something we’ve been doing since A Blaze and especially since 2005. And I’m just looking forward to new material, new riffs and ideas.”
