Winds of Winter – Through Blood and Dust (Music Video)

Winds of Winter – Between Inner Darkness and Real-World Horror
Hailing from Saarland, Germany, Winds of Winter is an extreme metal act that blends dark, atmospheric textures with sharp, aggressive riffs and melodic structures. Formed in 2023 by Tower and joined by Strnk, the duo draws influence from the melodic black and death metal of the ’90s, infusing it with elements of philosophy, literature, the forces of nature, and occult themes.
Their upcoming debut EP, Dark Chamaleon Dimers, set for release on December 20, 2024, promises to lead listeners into a world shaped by inner conflict, despair, and existential reflection — a sombre yet compelling sonic landscape.
But Winds of Winter is not confined to introspection alone. Their latest single takes a bold narrative turn. Titled “The Witches of Butsha”, the song departs from the purely symbolic and enters a more grounded form of storytelling, one rooted in the brutal realities of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Framed as a dark fantasy, the track tells the story of a group of women who rise to face the monstrous horrors surrounding them. But this time, the monsters are real.
The song honours the resilience and defiance of the women of Bucha (Butsha), who faced violence, loss, and death without surrender. It’s a tribute to those who fought not just for survival, but for dignity and resistance, transforming pain into a legacy.
With this release, Winds of Winter bridges fantasy and reality, myth and history — and reminds us that darkness isn’t always fiction.
