Everything Dies Unveil the Despair of "Midnight Poetry"

Born from the shadows of 2024, Everything Dies—the atmospheric, melodic depressive black metal project founded by Stefan Lorenz (Nargathrond)—delivers a unique blend of sorrow, savagery, and surprising accessibility. Their debut album, Survivalist (released October 4th, 2024), explores the agonising process of a sudden breakup, and the single "Midnight Poetry" is the album's philosophical core.

This is a track dedicated to the blackest parts of the heart: the fear of falling in love and being abandoned, again and again, until "nothing is left"—as if cursed to remain alone.

🌙 A Sound That Stays in the Head

"Midnight Poetry" captures the essence of the band's style, which draws heavily from influences like Aaskereia, Enisum, and Lifelover, yet mixes it all with a modern touch and pop songwriting sensibility.

The band proudly states that the song "got it all"—and they deliver:

  • Atmospheric Dynamics: The track runs the gamut, moving from ferocious Blastbeats to dragging, melancholic doomy parts.

  • Surprise Elements: An unexpected breakdown provides a moment of sonic catharsis before the song builds to an epic ending featuring clean vocals.

  • High Recognition Value: Despite the heavy themes and harsh dynamics, the pop songwriting influence ensures the track "stays in the head," inviting listeners to "dream, cry, headbang and sing along."

🔥 Love is Arson

The lyrics are a powerful philosophical debate about the nature of love, drawing direct inspiration from a book of Shar in the video game Baldur's Gate 3. Love is not seen as a comfort, but as a dangerous, destructive force:

“Love is the cruelest of all the lies used by my enemies. / It is a disease that can ensnare a heart for life... / Love is arson.”

The lyrics capture the tragic irony of seeking a soulmate—a "best friend and companion"—while simultaneously fearing the inevitable abandonment that leaves nothing but "cold ash and hungry hearts."

The repeated, haunting chorus captures this sense of being lost and cursed:

Losing my way home / Lead me back to where I came from / Calling out my name / In this midnight bane.

💿 The Survivalist Journey

Survivalist contains seven tracks dedicated to this spectrum of melodic depressive black metal. The album describes the internal hurdles and thoughts associated with a relationship breaking up without warning. Fittingly, the album rounds off with a cover version of HIM’s “The Funeral Of Hearts,” perfectly underscoring the melancholy and romantic tragedy that fuels the entire project.

This is 666% passion poured into metal—a vital and devastating new voice in the scene.
