Grom Records – 2011 – Italy/Greece
This Split CD is in the best Old School Black Metal vein. Cold, grim, lifeless. What you can hear on this CD is behind all trends and surely against the mainstream of nowadays Black Metal. Comparing to some bands from today, only Taake might get close to this what you can hear on this CD. Imagine Taake going even way more into the past of Black Metal music without their strange part like the banjo on the last release. This is what you get.
Ars Macabra is a Black Metal band from Roma/Italy and they open this CD. They play a faster kind of Black Metal comparing to the other band here on this CD, but they don’t play as fast as Marduk or Dark Funeral. They are surely a great opening act for this CD to get you into the darkness of it.
Cosmic Ekpyrosis are from this CD my favorite. They are a Greek Black Metal band and as you might know, they Greek Black Metal Scene have a lot of good stuff to offer. Their music is slower and more based on atmosphere that comes crushing down on you with all its heaviness. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t use faster parts in their songs. They use them as well; it’s just that they put some slower parts in it to bring their music to another level.
