Sardinian Supremacy: SHARDANA Battles Mythology with "Is Cerbus"

Hailing from Italy, SHARDANA is far more than just a metal band—they are modern custodians of ancient Sardinian lore. Formed in 2008, the band fuses a core Heavy Metal sound with the epic frost of Black and Viking Metal to create a distinct and battling sonic experience.

The band’s name and songwriting are inspired by the legendary Shardana pirates who sailed the Mediterranean in the second millennium BCE, celebrating the glorious courage and legendary pride of these historical figures. This commitment to heritage is why some of their songs are written in the Sardinian Language.

SHARDANA is now gearing up for the release of their next full-length album, The Monarch, set to be unleashed on September 5th, 2025, via Rude Awakening Records. To build anticipation, the band has released the second advance track, the lyric video for "Is Cerbus."

"Is Cerbus": The Ritual of the Hunter and the Hunted

"Is Cerbus" is a deep dive into Sardinian heathen folklore, focusing on the powerful theme of dualism.

"Is Cerbus" means "The Deers" and refers to one of the traditional masks used during Sardinian carnival celebrations. The song explores the opposing yet interconnected roles of the hunter and the prey figures in these rituals and myths.

Musically, the track delivers the expected blend of epic scope and metal fury. Given their evolution, which included adding more black metal influences on their previous album Milli Annos, "Is Cerbus" promises a composition that balances massive, soaring heavy metal riffs with a darker, sharper extreme metal edge, perfectly scoring the mythological conflict it describes.

A Legacy Forged in Fire

SHARDANA’s journey has been marked by high-calibre production and major live appearances. They have shared stages with giants like Destruction, Mnemic, Marduk, and Jinjer.

The upcoming album, The Monarch, promises their most refined sound yet, having been recorded at Overcore Studio, mixed by Lorenzo Mariani, and mastered at Audiosiege studio by Brad Boatright—names synonymous with professional, hard-hitting extreme metal production.

SHARDANA is not just making metal; they are forging history into sound. "Is Cerbus" is an immersive introduction to the majestic, battling soundscape of The Monarch.
