Monochromatic Black - Vehemence (Album Review)
Monochramic Black can be a really interesting and promising name for fans who love progressive sounds in extreme music in 2025. They have been a pretty active band from Long Island, New York, since 2018, and Vehemence is their 2nd EP and the current release in 2025. Even if Monochramic Black could be generally called deathcore, I can tell you for sure that if it is considered based on the usual sounds and genre of the album, the band is not like a popular new type of deathcore bands that you can observe on the left and right around the world, it has very, very creative and innovative guitar riffs and drum rhythms and measurements and deep-impact variety in vocal pitches and techniques that we can no-longer hear in this kind of extreme core metal bands or deathcore style. Guitarist John Gribbin's progressive guitar technique is in-depth, and the compositions that the band created really show a good breakthrough and change in this style. Vocalist Tanya Elizabeth is definitely a separate world for the extreme metal music community, the tones she can go down and up and the vocal pitches and styles she uses are so diverse that she can really be thought of as one of the top 10 metal and modern extreme metal vocalists in the near future if they gain the momentum as I expected now. In terms of style and composition of the band, from classical progressive and jazz-inspired heavy lead guitars they blended the main pillar of the deathcore bands——slamming groove rhythm guitar and drum breakdowns, and innovate these elements into the technical mathcore riffs and melodic progressive heavy riffs and grrovy drums, and in this composition structure, through the album, each song consists of 3-4 high and low down in different and rich variety of extreme brutal vocals including clean heavy and melodic vocals. I think the band did a good job as a production on this record, and they recorded a promotional album-like EP in their own experimental style. From my point of view, if I say what else I would add musically if I were in their place, I could think of more groove and lethal rhythm guitar riffs over strong and more technical bass lines in the pre-production and production of the compositions of the songs, which would enrich the aggressiveness of the band in a modern metal sound. The weakest part of the band may be the most positive aspects I listed above. If I think in terms of the music market, some deathcore and extreme metal fans may find it too experimental and variable, based on the hype groups in the general market. Listeners should definitely discover Monochromatic Black and music labels and production companies: Don't sleep! There's a really promising and lethal band here!
