Finnish Death-Sludge Outfit Black Royal Unveil New Single "Drown the Seaweed"; New Album Abyssian Out This October

Finnish death-sludge metal quartet Black Royal have officially returned with "Drown the Seaweed," the crushing first single taken from their upcoming fourth full-length album, Abyssian, set for release on October 30, 2026, via M-Theory Audio. Formed in Tampere in 2013, Black Royal have spent over a decade forging a signature sound that bridges the icy ferocity of Scandinavian death metal with the thick, suffocating weight of sludge. Following up on their acclaimed 2022 release Earthbound, the band continues to refine their punishing yet atmospheric approach.

Regarding the new track, the band shared: "‘Drown the Seaweed’ was born from the idea of crafting something ethereal and weightless - a sonic landscape that drifts like morning mist across a quiet summer lake. As the track unfolds, it dives deeper, with the C section and guitar solos pulling the listener beneath the surface into darker, more immersive waters. The result is a beautifully melancholic piece, balancing atmosphere with a memorable, hook-driven chorus that lingers long after the song fades."

Lyrically steeped in ancient aquatic myths and the terrifying, unpredictable power of nature, "Drown the Seaweed" comes accompanied by a cinematic official video created by Markus Vähäaho (RAW ART Creations) and featuring actress Julia Koskimies. The single was recorded at Studio Watercastle with producer Arttu Sarvanne, mixed by Jussi Kulomaa, and mastered by Jaakko Viitalähde.
