WITHERIA ”Painful Escape”

Stay Heavy Records- 2009 – Finland

I haven’t heard many thrash metal bands from Finland where is gloomy, depressive as well as expressionist. Witheria is a nice band; although they are not pure thrash metal band, in this weird time of the night -04:50- it made our cd player happy.

In fact, before listening, I assumed that this band is a mix of pure black metal and thrash. In the band’s profile photo, they look like as if they were a thrash-heavy band, but I can tag them as progressive thrash because they don’t make pure thrash. We come across some groovy riffs, core parts sometimes. By the help of melodic death metal riffs, I can understand that Witheria wants to create a common metal band atmosphere. There is nearly no powerful attempt to create underground theme in the album, don’t take it a bad thing, but this is what I feel: the more concerts+the more people listen us, the better for us. This is the mentality of the band, I think.

But, if there needs to a non-prejudiced comment, there are lots of riffs that don’t suit pure metalheads, on the other hand, there is a vomit like vocal that can attract pure thrashers. Drum parts are successful, composition ability and structure are on peaks, I wish we won’t come across common riffs in band’s future works. I recommend you to listen it, not bad.
