Darker Than Black – 2011 – U.S.A
This Promo CD of Galdr is the first material of this band that I heard. My opinion about the 6 songs here is mixed. On one site I noticed some very interesting parts in the music of this band which make’s me want to hear more from them, but on the other site too many of the details are drowned in the sound here. The production is harsh and it reminds me a lot to some Black Metal releases from the beginning of the 90’s. Only if you listen to it very carefully, you can hear some interesting melodies on the keyboards. The drums are too much above all the other instruments and are pushing them aside. The guitars sounds more like some kind of chainsaw and I can’t clearly hear the riffs. You can hear the guitars only very good when they are on their own. The keyboards are in my opinion the best here, because they are very melodically and atmospheric. From time to time, they remind me of Vinterriket. Also, because of the bad sound here, I can’t understand a word from the singing. The speed of the songs is mainly fast with some slower atmospheric parts. The slower parts here give to the songs some very nice details which makes them very interesting. The songs with most of these parts are also among the best here.
