MEPHORASH ”Death Awakens”

Grom Records – 2011 – Sweden

This is the debut album of this Swedish Black Metal band. Their music here on this album is in the classical Swedish Black Metal vein, maybe a bit too classical for my taste since I am not a big fan of most of the bands that comes from there, just of a few ones. The intro on this CD sounds scary and it can really bring you in a trip, but the rest of the material doesn’t continue that way. After that intro, their music starts to be fast and without many changes in the style. One of the songs that I would recommend is the song “Crushed under evil”. This track stands on its own here on the album, because of the changes and the atmosphere that it has. Slow and hard at the same time. The song “Death Awakens” shows an interesting mixture in the beginning and I must say that it’s too bad that they didn’t continue this way. In this song, the band reminds me a bid of the Brazilian Black Metal band Mystfier. The last song here called “Hangman’s curse” is an instrumental and it closed this album very good. The piano, the sound, etc., everything here sounds very interesting and unique.

6/10
