DESPITE EXILE ”Re-Evolve”

2012 – Italy

RE-EVOLVE is the second release by the Italian progressive Deathcore band ‘DESPITE EXILE’ after their 2011 self-release successful debut Scarlet Reverie. The Ep consists of three songs and hardly takes up your time as the whole album mounts to only, under, 12 min.

The EP starts with ‘Oscillate’, though it has its own melodic moment, is a direct super-sonic punch to the face; the track winds up your head and give you a sudden head-rush that’s just so addictive, you’ll figure it out as the song fades with Jei Durisotti screaming ‘You are not different enough to judge, You are none to judge’, on top of his gullet! An excellent start to what I would like to call a very good EP.

‘Perfection Neutralized’ is a brutally intense follow up to ‘Oscillate’. A high-octane deathcore assault with some brilliant breakdowns and a melody line of its own the song puncture through your brain and puts you into a state of ‘Core’ hallucination.

‘Mechanical’is the closing song of the EP and perhaps, if I can use the word melodic, the most mellow of ‘em all (but not the mellow as the word popularly implies to). The songs, though, has its moment of heaviness and some good signature breakdown mid-song makes the song worthy of a repetitive listening.

Well I sum up my review here. Not the most original sound that you can find around but they know what they are doing and they are doing it good! The Ep is full of some hard hitting guitar riffs coupled with some remarkable jumpy breakdowns that are in no doubt to give anyone some memorable headbanging experience! You are surely bound to like the band if you are into bands like Born of Osiris, Whitechapel and the likes.

I won’t be surprise if the band breaks to a wider audience and make it big this year, especially when everyone are enjoying the ever so galore presence of Metalcore/Djent euphoria at the moment.
