BURZUM ”Umskiptar”

Byelobog Productions – 2012 – Norway

I don’t know what to think about the new Burzum releases for some time now. The last good Burzum release in my opinion was “Belus” and after that Burzum became too “progressive” to say it so because I can’t find any other word that describes the difference between the new and he old stuff. Off course, he isn’t the kid anymore that recorded the great albums in the first half of the 90’s and that he now wants to go to the next level, but for someone like me who loves his old albums, the newer ones are hard to understand. First of all what I miss on the new albums is the atmosphere that Burzum had than almost 20 years ago. The atmosphere was that what made me listen to his project back than and now it seems like Grishnack lost his touch and is trying to show something’s to the listeners. I guess that this way he will loss many of his old fans and get new fans into Burzum. Clean vocals and Piano like we have on this album was never the part of his music and now he uses them frequently. OK, I agree that with this things he creates another atmosphere comparing to the atmosphere from the old days, but the atmosphere isn’t that deep and depressive like it was the case in the old days.

6/10
