According to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, Greek extreme metal veterans ROTTING CHRIST will play in South Africa in July under an assumed name to appease religious protesters.
The band is scheduled to perform in Johannesburg on July 1 and Cape Town the following night. The shows are being organized by Witchdoctor Productions, the company that puts on the country's Witchfest event, which was the target of protests last year.
In an interview set to be broadcast on TeamRock Radio's "Republic Of Rock" show this Sunday, March 13, Witchdoctor promoter Shaughn Pieterse says: "What we're going through is what the metal scene dealt with in the late '80s and early '90s, with religious folks challenging them and trying to stop the shows because they disagreed with the opinions and messages of the bands.
"It started early last year with Witchfest 2015. In order to host an event you've got to get certain certificates from the council. Every time we made a move to do everything by the book, the councils were getting shot down by so-called Christians and religious protesters.
"Every time we had to move venue we lost the deposit and you keep haemorrhaging money. But you have to make the show happen because if you don't then they've won. You have to take quite a knock to show that they can't stop you.
"It's started again with BEHEMOTH and more so with ROTTING CHRIST. But we even accommodated that and spoke to the band and they will be playing in South Africa under an alternative name so as not to offend people in that sense. ROTTING CHRIST was maybe a little bit too far for some people; it's really in your face."
There is no word yet what name ROTTING CHRIST will perform under for the South Africa dates.
In a 1998 interview, ROTTING CHRIST mainman Sakis Tolis was asked if he still thought that ROTTING CHRIST was a good name for his band, which formed in 1987. "It's not a strange question... it's a pain in the ass for us, you know?" he replied. "Maybe this name doesn't suit our music very well now, but we keep it to avoid disappointing our old fans, the ones who have followed ROTTING CHRIST all these years, and on the other hand, I think metal music needs extreme names, and this way we show our indifference towards any religion. So we keep this name, and if someone won't listen to the band [because of the name], we won't give a shit about him."
German thrash metal pioneers ASSASSIN will release their new studio album, "Combat Cathedral", on May 20. The effort will be made available via Steamhammer/SPV worldwide on CD, limited-edition LP (500 copies only on red 180-gram vinyl + CD) and as a digital download. The cover art was created by Marcelo Vasco, who also worked with SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY and BORKNAGAR.
After founding member and vocalist Robert Gonella left ASSASSIN in 2014, new singer Ingo "Crowzak" Bajonczak joined the group and it turned out that he was the right choice for the band. From the first to the last note, the album contains loads of energy and ultra-heavy riffing, making it clear that ASSASSIN is still at the top of the list of German thrash metal bands.
Comments ASSASSIN guitarist Jürgen "Scholli" Scholz: "Like back in the '80s, the new album stands for thrash metal at its finest, but after the last album, 'Breaking The Silence', much more mature, developed and with a very fat production. Songs with 220- 240 bpm are not rare, same with groovy mosh parts, which are partially nested into each other and a lot of sticking refrains, which will animate you, to shout them along immediately together with our new singer Crowzak. The opener sums it up perfectly: ASSASSIN are 'back from the dead!'"
ABNORMALITY will release its sophomore album, "Mechanisms Of Omniscience", on April 29 via Metal Blade.
Formed in 2005, ABNORMALITY drew its members from the ranks of units such as TERATISM, FORCED ASPHYXIATION, GORATORY and SEXCREMENT, and they have worked patiently and persistently to build up a grassroots following, maintaining their integrity while steadily expanding beyond their local scene. In 2010, they dropped their debut EP, "The Collective Calm In Mortal Oblivion", which immediately drew attention in the underground, followed by the crushing and critically acclaimed full-length, "Contaminating The Hive Mind" (2012), cementing their status as one of the heaviest and most dynamic bands in the genre. Now, with their upcoming sophomore effort, "Mechanisms Of Omniscience" — produced once again by Peter Rutcho, and featuring artwork by vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy — the quintet have never been more serious about getting their message out there, as well as ensuring legions of the moshing masses incur whiplash.
Belgian metal veterans AFTER ALL have inked a deal with NoiseArt Records. The band's ninth full-length album, "Waves Of Annihilation", will be released on June 10. The CD was once again produced by Dan Swanö and features "intriguing sci-fi artwork" by Ed Repka.
According to a press release, "Waves Of Annihilation" "skillfully fires on all cylinders and shows all the trademarks that have made AFTER ALL a genuine thrash icon. Passionate energy meets creative songwriting. Guitarists Dries Van Damme and Christophe Depree deliver monster riff after monster riff — thrash fans will have tears of joy in their eyes! Vocalist Sammy Peleman shines once more with his unique and profoundly diverse voice, providing goosebumps especially in the clean sung choruses."
"Dear Slum Landlord", the new video from British grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH, can be seen below. The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight Media and includes performance footage shot by Oliver Barth of Visions In Fear.
Comments NAPALM DEATH vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway: "Being a very queasy and deliberately monotone kind of song, we felt simplicity was the key with the video for 'Dear Slum Landlord'. Suitably, thanks to two production people in Oliver and Costin — who really understand the contrasting elements of NAPALM DEATH — it's simple, desolate, black and white and just that little bit grim, befitting the subject matter of interconnected housing/labour exploitation which does its best to remain hidden from view."
"Doomsday", the new video from old-school death metallers JUNGLE ROT, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's ninth full-length album, "Order Shall Prevail", which was released last June via Victory.
After five successful years filled with four albums and some demos and splits and great shows and festivals around Europe, ENTRAILS main singer and bassist Jocke Svensson and drummer Adde Mitroulis are leaving the band for new blood. Their last performance with ENTRAILS was at Netherlands Deathfest last week.
Comments guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist: “It has been a pleasure having those two guys in the band for all those years. Without them ENTRAILS wouldn’t have made the albums and shows that happened in the past. Unfortunately their time just wasn’t enough anymore to give ENTRAILS the time and focus that I wanted for doing even more shows and more intense work with the band. It is not easy to combine several other bands plus familys when more time is needed to push ENTRAILS even harder. And therefore the guys decided to leave in a friendly matter and what´s best for the band ENTRAILS. We wish them all the best of luck in their other projects.”
Martin “Fjalar” Mikaelsson is the new man behind the drums. Martin is well known from bands as Istapp, Nivlhel and Unchained. Tommy Carlsson is from now on main vocalist and bassist. Tommy is known from bands as Istapp, Nivlhel and Visceral Bleeding.
Martin says: “I'm really looking forward to bring death upon earth with Entrails as the new torturer of heads!”
Tommy says: “I'm excited and proud that I will be a part of Entrails, I love old school death metal and I'm looking forward to continue and make some brutal music with these guys!”
The first show with new line-up will be in Stockholm on the 26th of March and the guys have worked hard and are prepared for this. ENTRAILS will continue to deliver the same brand of old school Death Metal as before!
"Well Of Despair", a new song from Ohio-based blackened metallers SKELETONWITCH, can be heard in the YouTube clip below. The track is taken from the band's recently completed new EP, which will be released this summer via Prosthetic Records. The effort, which marks the recording debut with SKELETONWITCH of the group's new singer, Adam Clemans (WOLVHAMMER), was completed at Baltimore's Developing Nations studio with producer Kevin Bernsten (MAGRUDERGRIND, NOISEM, MUTILATION RITES).
"I'm very proud to be a part of the SKELETONWITCH camp, and I'm very excited about how the new EP turned out," said Clemans. "Working with like-minded musicians is always a pleasure, and I'm confident that the new chapter of this band will carry the SKELETONWITCH banner properly and proudly."

Six years after the release of their latest album, the Swedish masters of black metal, DARK FUNERAL, will finally release their new album on June 3rd, 2016 via Century Media Records! It will be entitled “Where Shadows Forever Reign”.
Lord Ahriman comments: “Wow, did 6 years pass already? Time surely flies fast! But you know what, we're back! DARK FUNERAL is back! And in true DARK FUNERAL spirit, like so many times in the past, we continue to push all boundaries musically & bring Black Metal into a new, fresh & dark dimension. This is by far our most professional, technical, dynamic & epic album thus far. And compared to previous albums, each new song offers a unique spirit & identity that is more profound than ever. And whether you like extreme Black Metal or not, I'm sure every fan of Metal will find songs on this album that they can enjoy to its fullest!
Every piece of the new album is combined into total perfection. The music, lyrics, musicianship, artwork & production. The artwork was made by Necrolord and the album was recorded at Dugout Studios with producer Daniel Bergstrand and studio engineer George Nerantzis. And I couldn’t be more satisfied with each and everyones contribution.
Anyway, it feels absolutely fantastic to be back with new music. And I can’t wait to let you all enjoy our latest Satanic Symphony 'Where Shadows Forever Reign'. See you all soon somewhere on the road!”
Veteran Danish thrashers ARTILLERY will release their new album, "Penalty By Perception", on March 25 worldwide via Metal Blade Records.
The official video for the song "Live By The Scythe" can be seen below. The band comments: "It was great fun to record the video for 'Live By The Scythe' on Fyn in Denmark. The filming was done in an old castle — Hindsgavl castle — in the forest, and in a school near Hesselager. The story behind the video is about death, fate, the meaning and acceptance of life and death. The video was done by M&M Production who also did the video for 'Legions'."
